About Us

The Tingwall Agricultural Museum and Heritage Centre committee plan to build a purpose built facility to house Jean Sandison’s Agricultural Collection and the Brindister Tractors and Machinery. The building will also have a meeting room/ educational room and we are also looking at providing a space for the Tingwall, Whiteness and Weisdale History group.

Latest Developments

It is with deep regret that the committee have decided to put our project on hold, in the hope that the economic climate improves. We are unable to secure a large financial backing that is needed to get our museum up and running. We have tried many different options and have been turned down at every avenue tried.

It is extremely disappointing for us as a committee to be forced into this situation, as we feel our project has received a very high level of support from all over Shetland. We would ask anyone who has any ideas on how we can lay our hands on large sums of money to please get in touch.

We would like to thank everyone for their continued support.

Damien Ristori, of Lerwick has kindly had a quiz out in teh local shops, from which he has donated the proceeds to our funds. He raised £129 with his photos of Lerwick Lanes. We are very greatful to him and the effort he has put in to raising money.

SCHOOL BOX

We have been working hard to compile a resource box that can go out to schools. It is designed to teach about traditional crofting and farming practices from Shetland. In the box there are several artefacts for pupils to get their hands on, as well as a pack of lesson ideas and many photographs.

The lessons are centred around Jeemie, a crofter, who needs help with his day to day life. The children will be encouraged to help Jeemie out through their lessons.

There are also many images of old and new practices. If the resource box is something you would be interested in, please get in touch.
